INSEP is a major « resource centre » to optimize the preparation of high level athletes.
For Olympic Federations, INSEP is an expertise and also a resource centre in the preparation and guidance of athletes.
It also acts as a leader for other national institutes and decentralised services (e.g. regional institutes) of the Ministry (National schools and CREPS) as well as for actors involved in sports development (territorial communities, companies, etc.).

On the field of play, INSEP constantly benefits from useful first-hand knowledge thanks to the work of its five laboratories (Biomechanics and Physiology, Computer Science applied to sport, Movement, Action and Performance, Psychology and Ergonomics of sport). The Research Mission of INSEP is in charge of scientific performance support to the benefit of on-site coaches and athletes.
